Gervais, Stewart Laugh about Prison Rape

Memo to Ricky Gervais and Jon Stewart: prison rape is not funny, and it's really enraging to see two intelligent lefty comedians legitimizing the people who laugh at it. You can complain to Comedy Central about it here.
New post up above.

I found it extremely distasteful for two engaging and intelligent comedians to belittle and joke about individuals who have been the victims of horrendous crimes. Simply because individuals are imprisoned does not mean that surrender their human rights or self-respect, and the actions of Jon Stewart and his guests on the daily show are more than just disrespectful; they are an enraging example of complete indifference to individual human rights. It is exactly such attitudes as those expressed that continue to enable harassers and rapists to target not only prison inmates, but also women and children who are the targets of such horrific sexual and physical abuse. To joke about it legitimizes it, and such legitimization only encourages the continuation of such barbaric acts.

Thank you Professor MacLeod for not only caring about human rights, but also for calling those out who are more than apathetic and disinterested, but are outright enabling and encouraging such horrific violations of human rights.

I totally agree James - this routine sniggering about prison rape is infuriating.

Thanks Ken. I mentioned it to the good folks at Just Detention International (formerly Stop Prisoner Rape)so hopefully they'll generate some responses too.
