Evansville Police Diversity Training

Long running saga in Evansville over the way the police reacted to a graduation party at the beginning of the summer; result was the EPD taking on some more diversity training. The one person charged was acquitted and is suing. The comments posted on this Courier story tell you a lot about, well, the kind of people that comment on stories like this in the Courier. This cartoon is in today's paper...

80th Anniversary of Marion Lynching

This is an amazing story from NPR; the famous photo is still an incredibly powerful teaching tool in an Indiana university, 80 years later.
2 years ago, I drew this cartoon after seeing a big enthusiastic pro-Obama crowd in Indiana....

Evansville Soccer Player Abby Guerra is Not Dead

Amazing but horrible story - Abby was declared dead after an accident last week, but it turns out that it was another girl who died and Abby is still alive though critically injured. Thoughts with her family, and with that of the girl who did die, Marlena Cantu.

Misogynist Garbage - Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I'd been meaning to say that the gigantically over-rated novel by Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is hilariously mocked in the Shouts and Murmurs column in the New Yorker, by Nora Ephron. It's great to see someone taking the piss out of it. That book drove me nuts - sexist, misogynist, monotonous, ugly and gratuitous crap masquerading as literature. Why the chattering classes are in love with Larsson's writing beats me.

World Cup Final - Ugly Stuff

Sad to see the inventors of Total Football playing like a bunch of Sunday park cloggers. Holland lucky to see out the game with ten men. The ref, an English policeman, must have thought about reaching for his trusty truncheon a time or two. Here's Mike Ingham, the BBC's chief football correspondent:

the biggest match in the world was soiled and stained and betrayed by the Netherlands.

I know part of football is to stop your opponent, but you must do it legitimately and I don't really see the point of getting to the final if you're going to disrespect it like the Dutch did so crudely. It was a bit like watching a child trying to build a sandcastle and another child then knocking it down.
